D I S K O V E R Y
by Fender Tucker
This issue of LOADSTAR 128 seemed to be cursed from the very beginning.
Programs that were slated developed fatal problems and even the replacement
programs were prone to having their text files disappear from disks. The
final straw was Managing Editor Bob Markland's getting bit on the nose by a
rattlesnake. Well, actually, it was one of Bob's wife's horses that got bit
on the nose, but the effect was the same: disaster.
The good news is that Bob Pellegrino, a master programmer from the old
days, is back in touch with the Tower and has threatened to deliver one of
his excellent programs for each of the 1999 issues. We're not accepting any
subscriptions past #42 but if you are a true 128 fan (and I think you are)
you will not want to miss the final year of the 20th Century as chronicled
on LOADSTAR 128.
Another bit of good news is Maurice Randall's WHEELS 128, which is
supposed to be unveiled at the Chicago Expo on October 24th. I'm planning
on driving up to Lansing IL for the show and will report on it on LOADSTAR
#173 and LOADSTAR 128 #39. Our world hasn't had a "major" show in years and
I'm looking forward to the spectacle. Maybe WHEELS 128 will inspire some
128-mode Geos activity for 1999 on LOADSTAR 128?
There is a wonderful feeling of freedom that comes from the knowledge
that oblivion is certain, but not imminent. I always felt that LOADSTAR 128
was the "serious" LOADSTAR but what's to stop us from having fun as we
await the millenium? In the words of the wise men from Liverpool: Oh that
magic feeling, nowhere to go.
